Presentations
Believe it or not, the very first time I met a "real live" author I was in my twenties! Fortunately, times are changing and students have the opportunity to meet and talk with authors in their schools. Having an author visit their school can open a student's eyes to the realities of the writing the wonders of their world, and perhaps even to the possibilities of a career in writing.
Presentations include the following:
- Use of a Powerpoint presentation to explore and discover the reading and writing process
- Open-ended question and answer dialogue detailing my journey from teacher to published author
- Reading of the children’s book
- A single red thread with the help of puppet partner and friend QuYi
- Lunch with the author
- Book signing
Presentations vary depending on audience size and age of students.
Available for Grades Pre-K through 6th Grade. Presentations target reading and writing standards.
"What an experience for our students to not only meet a real author, but one who inspired them to become better writers! After reading her personal narrative, A Single Red Thread, author Lorraine Butler Simcox shared with our students the writing process and her experiences. Mrs. Simcox used the terminology from our Georgia Performance Standards and modeled the elements of good writing. We look forward to her next visit and the impact she will have on our students!" —Robin Samples, Principal, Rossville Elem

"Mrs. Simcox, Thank you for coming to our school. Your story, A Single Red Thread, is so sweet and I really liked your puppet friend, QuYi. Thanks for the encouraging words." —Amanda, 4th Gr., Aspiring Author
"We had a fabulous 2 day visit with author, Lorraine Butler Simcox. Her book, A Single Red Thread, is such a beautiful story—the delicate pictures are a perfect match for the tender text. Lorraine's presentations were much more than an author sharing her book. She's a thoroughly gifted teacher, engaging the children in discussions, book walks, and adapting the programs to best suit each grade level's abilities and interests. We look forward to her next book and visit!" —Debbie Shannon, Media Specialist
